The Oregon coast has become the vacation destination for thousands of sea lions. They are actually big pests, but are quite fun to watch. One of the places they hang out is in the Newport harbor.

Lime Kiln State Park on San Juan Island. It was the first park I have ever been in where you are actively encouraged to put yourself in danger for a picnic. There are no handrailings along the trails, which skirt the very edge of the rocks, and as you can see from this picture, the picnic tables are right out there on the rocks. These are at the base of a lighthouse, which is behind the photographer.

The Green River runs close to my apartment complex, and due to a faulty dam upriver, the Army Corps of Engineers has predicted a 30% chance of flooding this winter. King County placed these sandbags on the banks of the river and while they are hideous, we are grateful for the protection.

The sign at original Ivar's, on pier 54 next to the ferry terminal on the waterfront in downtown Seattle. The airplane in the upper right corner was an accident. The seagulls hang out here and will take food right out of your hand or swoosh in and grab it out of the air with frightening accuracy.

An apparently less than literate fan of Michael Jackson left their sentiments on the steps outside the Experience Music Project, an impromptu memorial location after his death. The steps are concrete - the pink color is a reflection from the purple wall (named after Jimi Hendrix' famous song, Purple Haze) that is a part of the building designed by Frank Gehry.

Inside the EMP (Experience Music Project Museum) at the Seattle Center. This is a sculpture made almost entirely from guitars, as well as a few other musical instruments thrown in there. It appears to be exploding from the ground twenty feet upwards. The sculpture plays music by using various instruments that are a part of the sculpture and was created by the artist Trimpin. It is called "If VI was IX: Roots and Branches"

This is inside the Experience Music Project, a joint effort with the Science Fiction Museum, located at the Seattle Center. This area of the museum, called the Sky Church, has a constantly changing light show on one wall that is set to music.
